Biography
I am a grade 10 student at West Kings High School in Kings County Nova Scotia and I am on the high school hockey team. I have been in 4-H for 8 years. I am involved in projects such as dog obedience, fisheries, sheep, poultry, waterfowl, vet science, market lamb market turkey, and self determined. I also have won first place in public speaking at the Nova Scotia 4-H provincial weekend. I am also on the Kings County 4-H Tug-Of-War provincial champion team and the Kings County 4-H provincial champion woodsmen team. This year I am currently chairman of the Kings County 4-H achievement day committee. I work at the Oaklawn Farm Zoo in Aylesford. My hobbies are fishing, camping, hiking, fly tying, raising and showing Border Collies, and paintball. I live on a farm and I have many pets such as 50 gallon reef aquarium, chameleon, stick bugs, cockatiel, Border Collie and a hedgehog. I would like to learn more about our oceans and take a marine biology coarse and get my bachelors in science. I am interested in working at a bigger zoo in the marine or reptiles department.

Abstract:I started a refugium for my 50 gallon saltwater aquarium. In the refugium I put alga in it called Caulerpa Prolifera. I tested my water for nitrate, ammonia, nitrite, and my Ph for 3 weeks to see if the was any change in my water chemistry. By having a refugium I saw really good results after 3 weeks and improvement in my invertebrate growth.
