Biography
I am a grade 12 student at Horton High School, where I am part of the Students Council Executive, and heavily involved in art and music (as well as scientific things). I paint abstractly, draw photorealistically, and play piano, flute and trombone. I am part of many school groups such as jazz band, concert band, choir and glee club. As well, I am founder of Horton Creative Productions, an art making organization at my school. I placed first in the junior piano category at the Provincial Music Festival. I have completed all RCM requirements for grade 10 piano, and am currently working on my ARCT in piano performance. I have done science fair projects for as long as I can remember and the biggest highlight was being a part of Team Canada at MILSET ESI 2011 My future goals involve obtaining a PhD and becoming a researcher.

Fruit Flavour: The Double Benefit of Aroma Volatile Treatments
Challenge:Innovation
Category:Senior
Region:Annapolis Valley
City:Wolfville, NS
School:Horton High School
Abstract:The benefits of aroma precursor treatments were investigated in blueberries and apples. It was found that although the different fruit produce different aroma volatiles, the aroma is still greatly improved and enhanced. By inoculating apples with fungi and treating them, it was also discovered that precursors have an anti-microbial effect. This has great commercial application as fruit aroma is enhanced and decay is inhibited.
