| Justin Marcon is a grade 8 student at Turnbull School. He enjoys creative activities such as visual and musical arts as well as technology related matters. When it comes to physical activities, Justin enjoys golf, mountain biking, kayaking, skiing, and hockey. Justin got the inspiration to do this project last year, when he dropped his own cellphone and noticed that the case protecting it was not very effective. For further investigation, Justin plans to refine his final prototype for a new protective device for cellphones. Some advice for other students who are thinking about doing a project would be to pick a topic that they can stay interested in. This is important if the student wishes to expand on their project in the future. Another piece of advice would be to pick a topic that is less common and more original than most other projects. |

The most frequently encountered orientation of a smartphone when dropped during use and the orientation that the phone experiences the most damage in when dropped onto different surfaces were found. A device was created to protect the phone in the key areas discovered from testing, making the device more efficient than other existing protective devices. |
