Abstract:Results from recent studies confirm that inhalation of diacetyl emissions during production of artificially flavoured popcorn leads to lung scarring. This research aims to qualitatively and quantitatively analyze chemicals released by microwaved popcorn using gas chromatography. The release of certain chemicals demonstrated various trends with respect to the brand, amount of flavouring and microwave oven power.
