Biography
I am a grade 10 student who attends Valour JK-12 School in Petawawa ON. I like to think of myself as a very friendly, creative, athletic, driven, and passionate person. This is my third time attending CWSF. I have received the Renfrew County Medallion two years in a row. I am involved in a number of school sports such as volleyball, basketball, badminton, xc running, track and xc skiing. I love to run and train all year round. Outside of school I am a brown/black stripe belt in the Petawawa Goju Karate Club, and I play piano. I have completed over 250 hours of volunteer hours in my community. My project directs my efforts to conserve the monarch butterfly species. I observed and studied the monarchs to design a user friendly model suited to their lifestyle, accompanied by a guide. My future goal is for the Monarch Sanctuary to eventually be sold in stores. The inspiration for this project came from ten years of raising and releasing monarchs using an aquarium in our home every summer. I wanted to do further research and inspire others. I would advise other students to choose a topic that they are truly passionate about.

Region:Renfrew County
City:Pembroke, ON
School:Valour JK-12 School
Abstract:As someone who has experience with rearing monarch butterflies, I have developed an understanding of their endangered status. There are existing sanctuary designs but they have not been proven to increase the population. This project, a new user-friendly sanctuary design, mimics the monarch larvae habitat with the goal that it will used by people to rear monarchs and help restore the population.
