Biographies
Corey - I'm a grade 12 student at West Ferris S.S. in North Bay, Ontario. As a member of our school's Student's Council, I'm responsible for writing/directing/filming/editing a series of videos that the entire student body views at school pep rallies. These innovative videos are designed to promote student participation in school activities and sport teams. In terms of academics, I have always been a "high achiever". I have received a number of academic awards, including the highest graduating average in grade 8. Currently, I have a not-too-shabby average of 93%, and plan to accept my offer to McMaster University for BioMedical Engineering. Once I have obtained by Engineering degree, I plan to attend Medical School and become a family physician. In fact, I actually work at a local doctor's clinic, which is one of my primary inspirations for pursuing such a career. The doctors I work with are nothing short of amazing and provide me with an incomparable level of guidance. In my free time, I can usually be found fixing computers. I have designed and built about a dozen custom computers for local doctors, all of whom are very happy customers :) My coolest experience: Meeting Dean Kamen in Atlanta.
Kyle Samuel - I am a grade 12 student at West Ferris Secondary School in North Bay, Ontario. I have enjoyed many great experiences, both academic and not. One especially notable example is being the Chief Engineer on a community based FIRST robotics team, winning 2 Canadian regionals among many other awards and attending World Championships all 3 years I participated. I have also competed in national mathematics competition since Grade 6 and have achieved numerous awards, from over 8 certificates of distinction to 2 COMC provincial medals to the Canadian honour roll in 2004 and 2005. I have also been invited to several international math camps, and recently to the POPTOR selection weekend in Toronto. I also enjoy volunteering around the community, especially as a mentor for our town’s FIRST Lego League team and as a volunteer referee for the Northern Ontario regional Lego competition. The Lego team consists of 8 young kids who have an interest in science and technology and I help them work through challenges in these fields to achieve a common goal. My goals for post-secondary are to obtain a bachelor and masters of math from the University of Waterloo, then move into research fields in mathematical physics.

City:North Bay, ON, Corbeil, ON
School:West Ferris S.S.
Abstract:Our project proposes a possible solution to the issue of environmental damage by CO2. After extensive research, we were able to design and fabricate an apparatus capable of reducing the CO2 emitted by any vehicle, regardless of make or model. After fabricating the device, we were able to quantitatively test the effectiveness of the device and concluded that our prototype reduced CO2 emissions by 8.3%.
