Biographies
Lauren - I was born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia where I’m a 10th grader at Vancouver Technical Secondary School. I’m an active participant in my school’s athletics program playing volleyball, soccer, badminton, and track & field. I have been awarded the Top Female Athlete for the past two years. In addition to my athletic involvement in school, I am an honour roll student standing 1st with top marks in my grade for the past two years. I also volunteer with Urban Promise at their camps and after school programs which are Christian organizations aimed to provide inner city children a safe, caring environment where the development of friendships and a healthy self-esteem is nurtured. This past April, I was nominated for the 2007 City of Vancouver Youth Award recognizing individuals who have been involved and have made a positive contribution to their local community. Also, in a team with four individuals we participated in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative program and won $5,000 for a local grassroots charity called, Jacob’s Well. My hobbies include: backpacking, kayaking, snowboarding, drawing, and singing. In the future, I hope to become a marine biologist while incorporating photography and cinematography with my love of science.
Ena - I was born in Edmonton, Alberta but I have lived Vancouver, British Columbia for the majority of my life. I am currently enrolled in grade 10 at Vancouver Technical Secondary School but I later plan to enroll myself at the University of British Columbia to pursue my dream of becoming a doctor. I have taken an interest in playing the piano ever since I was 7 years old. I have received various awards, from honourable mention to gold awards, in different piano competitions and festivals in the Greater Vancouver region. I am currently in the Associateship with the Royal Conservatory of Music (ARCT) level of music where I am currently working hard to obtain a performer’s degree and I will later try to receive a teacher’s degree. Other than piano, I also enjoy singing, volunteering at a variety of charity events, playing recreational sports such as volleyball and badminton, and am involved in my school’s track and field team.

Sommaire:The purpose of our project was to see how the accumulation of particulate matter on the surface of leaves, affect the ability of light to induce plants and trees to undergo transpiration. After performing a transpiration test using a potometer and grow light, we have found that PM does affect the ability of plants and trees to transpire, particularly plants found in high traffic areas.
