| Anne - Hello my name is Anne Theilmann and I am in grade 7 French Immersion at Summerland Middle School in Summerland, British Columbia, where I live with my parents and older brother. I have gone to 2 other schools, one which was an all French school. I love to play school sports like volleyball, basketball, field hockey and track and field. I am on the Penticton district soccer team which is really fun and you get to meet a lot of new girls. I enjoy most sports and always try to do better at them. I also figure skate almost all year round and I am helping teach younger kids to skate, and to cross country ski in the winter. In my spare time, which is not a lot, I love to read and do stuff like hiking with my family. I have received three awards for skating which is really nice because the people at skating vote for who wins the awards and they chose me which is a great honour. In the future I do not know what I want to do yet, but I would like to do something with numbers because I love math. | | Clara - I am in a grade seven, French immersion class at Summerland Middle School in British Columbia. I live with my parents, two older sisters and dog. When I'm not at school I spend my time playing violin, playing soccer and other sports, reading lots and lots of books, baking, mowing the lawn, watching CSI, listening to music, and writing poetry. I have recently won an award for my poems in a local writing contest. This year I was chosen by my teammates as the captain of our soccer team. In the summer I love to spend as much time as possible at Pioneer Pacific camp on Thetis island where we tube, waterski, wakeboard, sail, kayak, canoe, swim, sing, do archery and play really fun wide games. At Pioneer I also volunteer as a junior cabin leader. I haven't the faintest clue what I want to do when I am older, but I look forward to experiencing an exciting and interesting career. I like flip flops, sun-shine, hot chocolate, chai-tea lattés, fresh baked cookies, blossoms, the smell of rain, running and jumping for joy, the sound of birds chirping, water balloon fights, laughing my jead off, winking and smiling!!!! |

Survival of the Batteries: Effect of Extreme Temperature on Alkaline Batteries

Alkaline batteries functioned very poorly or not at all at extreme cold temperatures (-150ºC/-80ºC), but worked better than normal at high temperatures (e.g. 50ºC). There was a difference in the three brands tested, with Energizer being the most robust at all temperatures. |
