Biography
Yongjun Wang, 18, a William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute student, is a member of Team Toronto at the Canada Wide Science Fair 2008 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Yongjun was a National Biology Scholar in 2007 and achieved 18th overall and first at his school for the Avogadro Chemistry Contest held by the University of Waterloo. He is an active leader within his school and local community. Yongjun helped in the establishment of the Mackenzie Science Club and SWITCH (Solar and Wind Initiative Towards CHange). They are youth organizations that strive to actualize change. Yongjun holds a variety of leadership roles in sports, clubs and teams in school. He is a leaf fan but supports any Canadian hockey team in the playoffs. Yongjun plans to study Life Sciences at University of Toronto – Trinity College this fall. He is considering specializing in immunology or pathology and lists Doctor of Medicine (MD) as a possible career option with a focus on medical research.

Abstract:The viral load testing system is a method of estimating the number of HIV molecules in blood to measure the progression of AIDS. It is a valuable tool for professionals, especially pharmaceutical researchers. However, the viral load test is biased against certain medications when the patient undergoes the HAART (Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy) treatment.
