| Allie - Allie is a grade seven student living in Toronto, Ontario. She is in an extended French program at school and is active in the concert band (French horn), acts as Vice-President on the student council and volunteers for Me-to-We. At school Allie excels at a variety of sports, qualifying for the city finals in cross-country and track every year. At her grade six graduation, Allie received awards for best athlete, outstanding achievement in academics and an overall leadership award. Outside of school, Allie plays competitive girls hockey at a the Rep 'A' level and is the assistant captain of her team. She now starting to train for triathlons. Allie loves to read and write. She created, wrote and edited a magazine called Kidz Plus. Money raised through sales went towards building a school in Africa. Allie also wrote a children’s book and aspires to be an author or journalist, living in New York City. Allie has composed songs and made cd’s displaying her musical talent on the piano. Summertime, Allie spends time at the cottage with her family and friends. This was Allie’s first science fair project (“Does Spelling Really Matter"). Interestingly, she is a very poor speller. | | Leila - My name is Leila Oudeh and I am 12 years old. I am very active so i love to be on sports teams. So far during the year I have been on the Softball team and the Floor Hockey team. Another thing is that I love the outdoors. Camping, hiking, swimming in the lake, etc. I have been involved in many community events shuch as helping out on the T-ball team from ages 4-6, also being on the T-ball team, soccer team, gymnastics & dance organisations in our community. I am in gr.7 and i won hounors two terms in a row so far and also got the physical Education award. When i get older i plan to be a teacher. My fall back would be a movie director but thats kind of like a dream. In the future i would also like to become a meteoroligist. Right now i am taking dance at as i have been for 3 years. I take Jazz and Acro this year. And my achivement in life was winning the science fair and now moving on to the CWSF. |

Does Spelling Really Matter?

We recorded the time taken for 46 students to read a text with or without errors and determined that it takes 10% longer, nine seconds, to read a piece of text with spelling errors. We also determined that females can comprehend mistakes faster then males. |
