My name is Jennifer Rich and I live in Williams Lake, BC. I’m a grade 11 student who loves to listen to a variety of different genres of music ranging from punk to rock to screamo to indie and all that’s in between. My first year participating in science fairs was when I was in grade 6. The next year I did a project and went to nationals, I’ve been going ever since. This is my fifth year participating in nationals. I have made many valuable friendships along the way. In the spare moments when I’m not working on a science fair project I enjoy reading, listening to music, going for walks, swimming, and riding my bike. Following high school I am planning on going to university to work towards a career in forensic pathology. I am not sure where I would like to go to university but I would love to see different parts of this wonderful country we live in. |

Division: | Life Sciences / None | Category: | Senior | Region: | Cariboo Mainline | City: | 150 Mile House, BC | School: | Williams Lake Secondary School | Abstract: | Sugars in the Shadows compared different glucometers to a hospital lab blood test to determine accuracy. The most accurate glucometer was then used to test fifteen participants’ blood sugar levels before and after eating a high sugar doughnut. The next day the same procedure was followed except a bagel was eaten. The levels were close due to the carbohydrates and fats in the bagel. |
