Biography
I am a grade nine student at New Germany Rural High School, a small community in Nova Scotia's Lunenburg County. From September to December 2007 I traveled around Ecuador by foot with my dad. For fun I enjoy biking, soccer, band, track and playing guitar. I spend a lot of time in my community canvassing for organizations including The Canadian Cancer Society and The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, as well as volunteering at the annual Relay for Life. I have no solid career plans yet, but I am considering a career in medicine, possibly with a NGO like Doctors without Borders or the Red Cross.

Abstract:Paintball and air soft guns are popular among teenagers, but adequate eye protection is not always worn. Using ballistics gelatin, I tested guns of different velocities to find out what damage could be caused to the eye. My testing showed that eye protection is vital to prevent serious and/or permanent ocular injuries and education is needed to change people's habits.
