Biography
My name is Iain MacLellan from Antigonish, Nova Scotia. I am a grade nine student at the Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School. I am involved in school and extracurricular activities. I play both Soccer and Ultimate Frisbee for my High School. In the summer, I play for the Antigonish Celtics soccer program. In the winter, I play hockey in our local minor hockey system and am proud to be an Antigonish Bulldog. Participation in the Nova Scotia Secondary School Student Association (NSSSA) has provided me with many leadership opportunities through workshops and conferences. I am also a member of the West River 4-H Club where I am enrolled in a number of projects but my passion is the dairy project. I was inspired to study mastitis in dairy cows to try to make a difference for dairy farmers. I hope to continue research in the dairy industry and encourage others to find their passion and research it! After high school, I would like to pursue a career in the agriculture or dairy industry.

Abstract:One of the most costly and common diseases of dairy cattle is mastitis. In dairy farming, time is money. If milk production drops, a farmer receives less in his/her pay cheque. As mastitis directly affects production, it needs to be addressed. To avoid losses, farmers must ensure herd health. What can be done to reduce incidences of mastitis within the herd?
