| Robert - Born to and raised by Chinese Canadian parents in beautiful Vancouver, BC, I was expected to excel academically and become successful, similar to many Chinese children. However, the route to success and the types of interests to pursue was entirely up to me. Today, I am a self-motivated, confident, and highly adaptive learner and leader. I participate in many school activities including the dragon boat team and volunteer for various community events including day camps while at the same time maintaining a high grade point average, and a deep interest in Science and Technology. Many times I’ll find myself reading articles describing new frontiers reached by scientists and engineers worldwide or experimenting with the settings on my computer. Though not as often, I also enjoy cycling along the city trails, hiking, and kayaking. After graduation, I plan to pursue an education in Biomedical engineering at UBC and therefore a future in what I like best, Science and Technology. Entrance scholarships and the CIBC YouthVision Scholarship (which I was awarded in 2005) will greatly assist me in my planned journey into the future. | | Jordan - Jordan Chin has been programming on and off for almost as long as he can remember. But before that, he began in the 6th grade, when school felt like it consisted entirely of free time, and he learned basic HTML and JavaScript. Then in the 7th grade, he moved on to bigger and better with C++ (which he is still learning to this day). Although he has been coding for so long, he feels he has not made as much progress as he should have. He blames this on the decreasing amount of free time each year, and is planning to study Computer Science at UBC. He is currently considering entering the gaming industry. Aside from coding, Jordan is also an involved student at Vancouver Technical Secondary. He is the Public Relations Officer of the Student Council, a devoted member of the Library Club, on his third year paddling for the VT Dragonboat team, and a member of BASE, a club at VT that coordinates and guides grade 8s to ease their transition into high school. Jordan also enjoys reading novels, and listening to and playing music in his spare time. He plays the clarinet in the VT Concert Band. |
