Biography
I live in the beautiful Margaree Valley, Nova Scotia. My mother and father built our homestead in the early 1970s using lumber and other materials from our property along with skills they developed over the years. My family makes an effort to be as self-sufficient as possible by powering our home with a micro hydro electric system, growing organic foods in our garden and greenhouse, raising poultry for meat and egg purposes, heating our home with wood harvested from our property and using a composting toilet. Contributing to the upkeep of our homestead has taught me the importance and strength of team work and has encouraged me to get involved in school and community activities such as sports teams, committees and other clubs. My hobbies include skateboarding, snowboarding, surfing, cycling and hiking. I am also an avid musician and have been exploring a variety of percussive and stringed instruments for the past few years. I have always been interested in math and sciences and plan to begin a bachelor of science program in September, 2007.

Abstract:I want to determine the feasibility of micro hydro power generation within the Margaree River watershed. These systems would have a low impact on the watershed’s ecosystem and would preserve the integrity of the Margaree Heritage River. If proven feasible, these systems would reduce the amount of coal being currently consumed and would contribute to a healthier environment.
