Biographie
I am a student in the 12th grade at Moira Secondary School in Belleville, Ontario. I am president of my school's student council and I have lead many fundraising initiatives throughout my school over the past few years. I have organized Christmas Sharing auctions, Have a Heart campaigns to raise money for HIV/AIDS awareness and research as well participated in the planning of many Random Acts of Kindness Week activities. At the 2008 CWSF I was awarded a silver medal in senior life sciences. At my 2009 regional fair I was awarded the Sci-Tech Ontario Stepping Stone Award, the Ontario Association of Medical Laboratory Sciences Award, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology Innovation Award as well as a scholarship to the University of Ottawa. This year I competed at the 2009 Sanofi-Aventis Biotalent Contest where I placed fourth. In the fall of 2009 I will be studying either Biology or Biomedical Sciences at the University of Ottawa. I hope to pursue biomedical research in the future and would like to further explore the field of the development of chemotherapeutic agents for cancer treatment.

Sommaire:Tryptophan and tetrahydrobiopterin were tested to observe possible antineoplastic properties when used alone and in conjunction with Cisplatin to treat A2780s, MCF-7, and W183 cell lines. Tryptophan had minimal effects on any of the cell lines. Tetrahydrobiopterin reduced cytotoxicity of Cisplatin when acting on A2780s cells and inhibited the cytotoxicity of cisplatin when acting on MCF-7 and W183 cells.
