Biography
My name is Nirusan Jayaranjan, and I attend Bruce Middle School in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The Canada-Wide Science Fair in Truro will be my second one that I will attend. I enjoy playing sports such as soccer, football, volleyball, and basketball. I will be attending Sturgeon Heights Collegiate for high school next year. I enjoy playing my alto saxophone in both concert and jazz band. I have an older brother who also attended the Canada-Wide Science Fair. I also plan on helping out with the 2009 Manitoba Host Committee for when we host the Canada-Wide Science Fair.

Abstract:In Canada there are over 68,000 blind people, and 319,000 visually impaired. There are an estimated 45 million blind people worldwide. I wanted to create a system that would allow the blind to navigate buildings independently by using Radio Frequency Identification, Parallax BASIC stamp, and infrared sensors. I was able to create a system which allowed the blind to navigate buildings independently.
