Biographie
My name is Katie van der Sloot, and I am a grade 8 student at St.Mary's Catholic School in Medicine Hat, Alberta. I am involved in the Fine Arts Program, we take drama, art, choral, dance and band! our teachers are very enthusiastic, and we , in turn, are the same. I have taken piano ever since I was very little, along with my entire family, (I have 7 people in my family, plus Spanky, my dog.) Part of what makes piano such a joy is my instructor, Shauna. Her ability and love for the music is inspiring. Each year I am involved in the Rotary Music Festival, which brings together hundreds of talented musicians.I have won some awards over the years, including best Canadian Composers in Intermediate piano. I am also a competitive swimmer, and have been for many years. My club, AMAC, has some excellent swimmers. Some highlights of my swim-meets in AMAC have included trips to Kamloops B.C, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Provincials, and Summer Games. The last couple years have been quite exciting, especially with this years trip to Ottawa! Along with having a tremendous science teacher, and this amazing opportunity, I have lately considered a career in science!

Sommaire:Our project focuses on the harmful effects of polycarbonate plastic. We made six different types of water by bringing them to a boil in the microwave or stove top in glass or plastic containers, one being polycarbonate plastic. It was clear during the experiment that plants which were exposed to Bisphenol A were stunted. In conclusion, we believe Bisphenol A is a harmful chemical.
