| Linda - I attend Sands Secondary School where I am involved in the Student Council, S.O.S. Service Club, and Yearbook Committee as well as the Model United Nations Group. I am establishing a Sands Global Issues club and helping to organize a Lower Mainland benefit concert for the crisis in DR Congo. I am currently volunteering at Kinsmen Lodge senior home. I am the Secretary for the Youth Arts Council of Surrey and I am helping to establish a Youth Arts Council of Delta. I am a member of the B.C. Youth Parliament, I will be the Minister of External Affairs and Public Relations for Lower Mainland East Youth Parliament and I am running for Youth Parliament of Canada. I am the South Fraser Correspondent for SMARTS and the Youth Canada Coordinator for Surrey/Delta. I am the Vice President of Human Resources for the Junior Achievement company “Environmental Innovation.” As well, I am on the board of Directors for Vancouver Anti-Poverty Youth. My partner and I placed second at the Sanofi-Aventis Biotalent Challenge and I hope to pursue a career in medicine. | | Cherry - I am the kind of person who thrives in a busy life, and refuses to lead a quiet life in the fear of letting something significant pass by unnoticed. I am a student who enjoys being involved in many extracurricular activities at school. I founded the Cancer Awareness Club in my school last year, and my responsibilities as the president include leading the organization of school- and community-based fundraising events. I also began holding meetings for students interested in the mathematics, which eventually evolved into the Sigma Pi Theta Math Club. Science has always been my passion, because it is the subject that excites me the most. I still remember learning about the atomic theory in Grade 9, and realizing how truly fragile my individualism is. The discovery that my uniqueness is solely dependent on the types of bonds and atoms that form all matter in this world put me in awe, and acted as the spark that ignited my interest in science. My plans for the future include going to a university, where I will continue to engage myself in numerous extracurricular activities that will allow me to cultivate my diverse interests. |

The Effects of Zizyphus jujuba var. spinosa Extract on Various Cancer Cell Lines

Zizyphus jujuba var. spinosa (commonly known as Z. spinosa) contains many phytochemicals that are important for inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. In our research project, we tested the Z. spinosa extract’s effects on three different human cancer cell lines. |
