Biography
My name is Andrew Johnston. I am in grade 10 at London Central Secondary School in London, Ontario. I have just written my Grade 4 Theory exam and next month I will take the Grade 7 piano exam of Conservatory Canada. At Central, I play first trumpet in 2 bands and an orchestra, and also take private lessons. I am on the senior Reach For The Top team, and am missing the provincials to come to CWSF. My interests in school are history, music and science, specifically physics. This is my first time attending CWSF. After high school I intend to go to the University of Western Ontario, but I am not sure in what discipline. Maybe 'Canada Wide' will help me decide!

Practical String Theory: Does Temperature Affect Vibration Decay of Strings...
Challenge:Information
Category:Intermediate
Region:London District
City:London, ON
School:Central S.S.
Abstract:This experiment investigated the effects of temperature on the vibration decay rate of musical strings and wires. An environmental chamber and a custom built, computerized plucking apparatus were used to collect data. No significant relationship between temperature and vibration decay rate was found, but an effect of pluck strength on decay rate was discovered. The next experiment should investigate this.
