Charanpreet - My name is Charanpreet Mahal. I'm currently a Gr.10 student at Dasmesh Punjabi School, Abbotsford, B.C. I'm a girl with an exuberant attitude and good work ethics. I love experiencing new things, new foods, and new places. Curiosity has always dominated my mind, I guess this why science attracts me so much. Other than science some of my interests include reading, baking, music, swimming and travelling. Besides this I'm also an active member of both the school and the community. I strongly believe in the saying: "You must be the change you want to see" and this why I love taking initiative to do things for others. My passion for the study of science has lead me to conduct a science club in which we help young kids learn and experiment with science. In the future I would like to pursue a career in science. I'm a past competitor at the CWSF and it really is an amazing experience which not only introduces you to the world of science up close but allows you to socialize with like-minded people and make friends. So this year I'm really looking forward to being a part of CWSF 2013 in Lethbridge!
Gurmeen - My name is Gurmeen Kaur Banipal. I am a Grade 10 student at Dasmesh Punjabi School in Abbotsford, BC. Science has always been my passion; even when I operated on remote controls and performed surgeries on toasters as a child. The saying, “Always aim for the Moon, even if you miss, you'll land among the stars”, strongly influences my life- I am hardworking girl, with an enthusiastic personality. Other than science, I enjoy reading, traveling to new places, listening to music, and playing sports. I play volleyball, soccer, and also take pleasure in swimming. I am trained to play the Harmonium and Tabla, two Indian classical instruments. My love and passion for science has lead me to conduct my school’s Vector Science Club- where we support young students to learn and experiment with science. Some of my greatest accomplishments include; winning “Student of the Year” awards; becoming my school’s “Spelling Bee Champion”; achieving numerous “Principle’s Honour Roll” awards; and winning the "Bronze Medal" at CWSF 2012. In future, I look forward to pursuing a career in science, and conducting scientific research. This is my third year at CWSF, and I’m excited to be a part of CWSF 2013!

Abstract:Blindness is a growing global issue. Although, the visually impaired rely on many techniques such as guide dogs and white canes to get through their day, these techniques are not the best aid; they only provide limited tactile information. In this project, we've built a navigation device that will give the blind freedom to move around independently, and reduce the risk of injuries.
