Abstract:Safe drinking water at high altitudes is important. The temperature that water boils on Mount Everest was calculated to be 70˚C. This was based on calculating the boiling point of water as a relationship to the barometric pressure. The barometric pressure was calculated based on the known altitude of Mount Everest. Water heated to 70˚C for 6½ minutes, effectively killed all fecal bacterial organisms.
