Biographie
I am a Grade 12 student at Kelvin High School in the International Baccalaureate Program. I am a volunteer peer tutor in the subjects of Chemistry, Pre-Calculus and English for Grades 10-12 at the IB and standard level. I am currently a member of the Rusalka Ukrainian Dance Ensemble as well as a dance instructor. I also work as a lab assistant at a periodontal clinic. The first-hand experience and learning opportunities this job provides are amazing and I cannot wait to further my goals in becoming a physician. Due to my interest in medicine and science I began a research project to study the antimicrobial properties of honey at the University of Manitoba. I have had amazing experiences throughout this project and I hope to continue to be involved in the research aspect of science and medicine. I have won various awards for my academics, perhaps the one I am most proud of is the ‘Best Overall Individual Senior Project’ I just recently achieved at the MSSS. As a very motivated, determined and ambitious individual I feel that I have a promising role in the future and cannot wait to become one of the professionals I admire today.

Région:Manitoba Schools Science Symposium
Ville:Winnipeg, MB

Sommaire:Using five North American honeys, the purpose is to determine their phenolic content and the phenolics’ specific contribution to honey’s antimicrobial properties. The best solvent for the phenolics is determined to be ethanol. Phenolics are quantitatively proven not to be the main antimicrobial agent in three honeys, and to possibly be the main agent in the other two honeys. Overall phenolics have significant antimicrobial properties.
