Biography
My name is Alex Hobbs. I was born June 4 , 1994 and I live in beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake. I have participated in my regional science fair twice, where I won several awards for my 2006 project on electromagnetism, and I was thrilled this year when I won my division and was granted the chance of coming to Ottawa to compete. Not only do I love science, but I am also interested in sports. I play competitive soccer and hockey. I am on the school basketball team and have participated in three on three tournaments outside of school. I enjoy long distance running and have been a member of the track and cross country teams. I am currently school president. I have been on the debate team for three years, am the yearbook chair, chess team captain, I participate in my school’s eco school program and have participated in the part-time gifted program. Last summer, I volunteered for Red Roof Retreat, which is a respite center for mentally and physically challenged children. This was an amazing experience. I am extremely happy that I have been chosen to come to Ottawa, and am looking forward to a fun week of science.

Abstract:This project studied the psychological theories of conformity. It was a blind experiment in which subjects were told that one of the four identical sugars they were tasting was sweeter and that the study was looking at age, gender and sense of taste. Only one subject was not swayed by pressure to state that they thought one of the sugars were sweeter than the rest.
