Biography
My name is Gaurav Kumar Jain. I am 13 years old and I am currently studying at Bishop Hamilton Montessori School in grade 8. For grade 9, I will attend the International Baccalaureate program at Colonel By School. I always do the annual Mathematica competition, play on the soccer and badminton teams, play in the school band and act in our annual theater productions. My favorite subjects are math, gym and science. I also enjoy various activities including tae kwon do, dancing, singing, basketball, and soccer. I also play the tabla, harmonium and the clarinet. My hobbies include reading, playing the nintendo 3ds and of course, watching t.v.! My efforts have been very rewarding: I obtained my black belt in tae kwon do at age 11 and am training for my 2nd Dan. I also came 1st in an Indian singing competition in 2009 and 2nd in 2010 and have won several annual student awards at Mukul Hindi School. Finally, I am very happy and excited to participate in such a wonderful event after winning Gold in the Regional Science fair 2 years in a row, and winning the consumer products award. Pomegranate: The Fruit of Life for Cancer

Abstract:This project tests the anti-cancerous properties of a compound in the pomegranate fruit, called ellagic acid, against colon cancer cells. The growth of the cancer cells was tested after adding different dilutions of ellagic acid to them. Pomegranate showed a significant decrease in the number of cancer cells as compared to the control group. Hence, ellagic acid showed great potential as an anti-cancer agent.
