Rebecca - I have lived on a beef farm all my life in a small community. I take the beef, goat, and foods projects in 4-H. I have held the treasurer's position in my club for about 6 years. I have won several awards within the program, including top member, 1st place in public speaking, and lots of ribbons at shows. I have had honors with distinction, and been in the extended French class ever since grade 7. I was selected to attend the science camp last summer at St. FX University. I've played on my school's basketball team for 2 years, and won the "all around player award" last year. I am one of the Grade 10 Leadership Girls at my school, we organize physical activities for students. I attend Sunday school every week. I like to spend time with my family, friends, and animals. After I graduate, I would like to pursue a career in criminal justice, law, or something to do with agriculture; I'm really undecided. I enjoy taking charge, being responsible, and dedicated. I never pass up an opportunity to travel and/or further my experience. I live to have fun and enjoy myself :) | Amber - I live in a small community called Upper Stewiacke in Central Nova Scotia. Division: | Engineering & Computing Sciences / Environmental Innovation | Category: | Intermediate | Region: | Chignecto Central West | City: | Brookfield, NS | School: | South Colchester Academy | Abstract: | We studied two methodologies to gain first hand knowledge on how herbicides can be detected in water and in soil. In addition, we carried out a case study to determine if Velpar could be detected in local runoff water from tile-drained blueberry fields. We tested for presence of the herbicide in water samples using Thin Layer Chromatography. |
