Biography
My name is Samantha Cibere and I am from Alpha Secondary School in Burnaby. I love being outdoors and also watching Science Fiction shows, as well as learning new and interesting concepts in science. I have also been on the honour roll for all my elementary school years and I plan on going to university and study in the field of astrophysics. Inspiration for my project came from my interest in physics and I decided to investigate this because there was not much research done on the topic. To further this experiment I would see if a higher voltage electric field would change the growth rate. Lastly to students who are thinking of doing a project I recomend you investigate something that you are genuinely curious about and want to learn about.

Does An Electric Field Affect Plant Growth?
Challenge:Discovery
Category:Junior
Region:Greater Vancouver
City:Burnaby, BC
School:Alpha Secondary
Abstract:This project investigates how the growth of radish seeds is affected by an electric field similar to that of an approaching thunderstorm. The data suggests when a radish plant is exposed to an electric field for 1-3 hours before watering the growth rate is greater than the growth rate of the control plants (Earth’s electric field) and the plants shielded from all electric fields.
