Biography
I got inspiration to start my study revolving around removing the neuropsychiatric side effects that leukotriene modifiers are able to cause from being on one of the medications myself, and experiencing the side effects. For further investigation, I may attempt to switch the inactive ingredients in one of the medications, Zileuton, to natural alternatives that may not cause problems, with the help of a mentor. An experiment could then be setup to mimic the gene it blocks. To other students thinking about doing a project, I would definitely give them the advice to do it on something they are VERY passionate about- because it takes up a lot of time and effort, and nobody wants to work on something they don't feel passionate about. Rather than picking the first idea they come up with, I would also suggest brainstorming until they find a project that they would be super excited to work on, one that outweighs the excitement of all other ideas that came to mind.

Abstract:This study revolved around the exploration of leukotriene modifiers as a solution to asthmatic problems that go hand in hand with allergies; and was conducted to modify leukotrienes through these types of medications, without having the adverse, neuropsychiatric side effects many have faced when using leukotriene modifiers.
