Biographie
My name is Katie van der Sloot, and I am a grade 9 student at McCoy High School in Medicine Hat, Alberta. I am passionate about anything Fine Arts, partly because I’ve grown up with music all my life! Along with all my family, (I have 7 people in my family, plus Spanky, my dog.), I’ve played an instrument since a young age. I love music, and am currently studying under the brilliant instruction of Shauna Kohles-Walters. Each year I am involved in the Rotary Music Festival, which brings together hundreds of talented musicians. I am also a competitive swimmer, and have been for many years. Some personal highlights of my swimming career in AMAC have included trips to Kamloops B.C, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Provincials, and Summer Games. Part of what makes swimming such a joy is all the tremendous friends I have in the club! I enjoy spending my free time with friends and family, traveling, boating, and shopping! Finally, I obviously love science, and have a blast on my annual science fair projects with my best friend and partner Rachel! And after last years exciting trip to Ottawa, I would love to pursue a career as a pediatrician!

The Effects of Probiotics vs Antibiotics on Common Bacteria
Division:Sciences physiques et des mathématiques / Aucun
Catégorie:Intermédiaire
Région:Kiwanis Southeast Alberta
Ville:Medicine Hat, AB
École:McCoy High School
Sommaire:Our experiment investigated the direct and indirect anti-microbial effects that probiotics are said to have on bacteria. We used four blends of probiotics and six common bacteria. The probiotics had no effect. We repeated this experiment with antibiotics. The antibiotics were successful. We also witnessed the existence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Probiotics despite their claims, appear to be ineffective in killing infectious bacteria by direct contact.
