Annie - Annie Wen is a grade 11 student at Prince of Wales Collegiate in St.John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. She is involved in a wide range of extra-curricular activities both inside and outside of her school. She is a member of her school's debate club and has competed at provincial and national levels. She is a member of her school's concert choir, as well as math league, robotics and student council. She is also an active member in her Air Cadet squadron and hopes to obtain her glider pilot's license this summer. In her spare time, Annie enjoys running, swimming and playing basketball. When Annie graduates from high school, she hopes to obtain a degree in the field of Engineering. She dreams of one day becoming an astronaut and working with the Canadian Space Agency. | Kirsten - Kirsten is a Grade 11 student at Prince of Wales Collegiate in St. John's, Newfoundland. She enjoys a surfeit of extra-curricular activities. Her favourite is debating, in which she participates at the provincial and national levels, and she has won several prizes in this field. She participates actively in the St. John's Regional Youth Parliament and Newfoundland and Labrador's Provincial Youth Parliament, and is the Secretary of the Board of Directors for both. She has also earned multiple awards for delegate excellence in Model United Nations. An active member of her school community, Kirsten is a member of both choirs, the math league, and student council. She also participated in her school's recent performance of the musical "Grease". Her favourite course in school is Russian, and through this she had the opportunity to travel to St. Petersburg this spring. However, Kirsten's academic interests are wide-ranging and she has no parameters or, indeed, limitations on her ambitions. |

Arterial plaque was simulated in thoracic aortas from rats and the vessels were subjected to varying intensities and durations of ultrasonic stimulation. It was found that ultrasound effectively removed the simulated plaque, without adversely affecting the viability of the cells. All durations and intensities tested exhibited similar levels of plaque removal efficacy. |
