I am Meghan Folnović. I am currently attending grade ten at Thom Collegiate in Regina, Saskatchewan. I like to play sports and hang out with friends. I enjoy playing soccer all year as well as volleyball, badminton, rugby and cycling. I play trombone and baritone in my school bands; in which I have won Most Valuable Jazz Band Member, two $50 scholarships and have travelled all over Alberta and Saskatchewan. I have also been involved with four province wide bands in grade seven through to this year. I am enrolled in the Pre-IB program at Thom Collegiate and spend most of my free time doing school work. In the future I would like to go to university, move out of Canada and work a high paying and enjoyable job. I would also like to fit in travelling the world and having a family. I have high expectations for my life and getting involved with Canada wide science fairs and province wide bands is getting me closer to that dream. |
| Meghan Folnović What is the Diameter of the Earth's Core?
Division: | Engineering & Computing Sciences / None | Category: | Intermediate | Region: | Regina | City: | Regina, SK | School: | Thom Collegiate | Abstract: | By using seismic waves, I attempted to estimate the diameter for the earth’s core. With collected data of 10 different earthquakes, the time-travel curve of the P-waves, S-waves and L-waves were calculated. After figuring out the highest degree S-waves would occur on seismograms and inserting the degree into a formula, the diameter of 7540 km was calculated. |
