Sophia - Bonjour! My name is Sophia Coulter English, and my project partner is Gillian Walczak. This is my first year at CWSF, and i'm loving it! I enjoy conducting random experiments, running, playing floor hockey, watching anything with Colin Firth in it, singing, acting, reading, and anything that I feel like doing at any given moment. (Like buying zebra tights) I live with my 2 sisters and my parents in Burlington, Ontario. Viva La Vie Boheme! | Gillian - My name is Gillian. My project partner is Sophia. I live in a family of five and attend Notre Dame Catholic High School in Burlington. I babysit young children and have been an altar-server in my parish since Grade 4. I love working with children and animals, and am a volunteer with the local recreation centre, helping with kids with special needs. My favourite colour is green, and I am a little shy. My first experience with judging and challenges was in Grade 7 when we entered a Robotic Arm Building Challenge, and we won a bronze medal. In Grade 8, our modified Robotic Arm was awarded a gold medal. We first entered our Regional Science Fair last year when we studied the effectiveness of hand sanitizers. I am very creative and enjoy producing artwork, clay figures, and making jewelry. I love working on projects and am looking forward to our exciting week in Ottawa. |
| Sophia Coulter-English, Gillian Walczak We're Not Plastic Bags: The Perfect Plastic
Division: | Génie et sciences de l'informatique / Innovation environnementale | Catégorie: | Intermédiaire | Région: | Bay Area | Ville: | Burlington, ON | École: | Notre Dame S.S. | Sommaire: | The purpose of our project was to make plastic from simple substances, having all the properties of current plastics and still be biodegradable. Plastic containing glycerine, water, and gelatine, was made. Changes in the formula allowed us to make more flexible plastic. The plastics were durable, strong and resistant to sunlight, freezing, and oil, but were easily broken down by saltwater and by heating. |
