Biography
I got the idea for this project on a week long canoe trip with my dad. I wanted to bring my iPod but I knew the battery would not last. For the rest of the trip I tried to figure out how to generate power and this is what I came up with. I want to make this product smaller and more practical, and believe it has commercial potential. If you are doing a project where you are making power, first figure out all the variables and how they can be changed. I attend Golden Horn School in Whitehorse, Yukon. I am named after the Pelly River which was the first river used by white fur traders in the Yukon in 1842. I am an accomplished solo whitewater canoeist and hope to compete in the World Freestyle rodeo in the future. I enjoy doing things outdoors including fishing, hunting, trapping, and riding. I attended the Arctic Winter Games in 2012 for snowshoe biathlon and won a bronze ulu. I enjoy working with tools, and experimenting and building things in my father's workshop. My parents used to have a sled dog team and I travelled all over the Yukon.

Abstract:My goal was to create a small hydro charger to charge my iPod in the wilderness from any moving water. I was able to adapt existing technology from the bicycle world and create a working iPod Hydro Charger that would charge my iPod in about 4 hours. I was also able to charge any usb chargeable device. I feel my project has commercial potential.
