Biography
I am a Grade 8 student at Arthur A Leach Junior High in Winnipeg, where I am a member of the Science Club, the school badminton team and running club. When I am not at school, I can usually be found reading a book. In the summer, my brother and I grow garlic to sell at the farmer’s market. We also sell beets, carrots and sweet corn that we grow on our farm at Fort Whyte, Manitoba. My favourite sports are badminton, curling and golf. My favourite vacation is to go on a cruise- I have been to the east and west Caribbean and to Mexico, so far. I plan to become a food scientist and see myself running my own food product development company by the time I am 30!

Garlic's Potential as a Biological Seed Treatment
Division:Biotechnology / None
Category:Junior
Region:Manitoba Schools Science Symposium
City:Winnipeg, MB
School:Arthur A. Leach School
Abstract:Seed treatments are a form of 'insurance' for farmers that help protect the seed and developing seedlings from factors that could lower the yield potential. Field and laboratory experiments show garlic powder has potential as a biological seed treatment for wheat, peas, and soybeans. The laboratory experiments show the increase in yield seen in the field trial is likely because of improved plant vigour.
