Biographies
Quentin Kun-Ting - I live in Mississauga, Ontario and go to school in Toronto. I am in Scouts and I like to go camping, especially during winter. In Scouts, I have been on a trip similar to this. It was called SCOPE and Canadian Scouts got to go down to Philadelphia and live with an American Scout's family. I play the piano. I also swim, figure skate, and horseback ride. I also am a distance runner. In the summer I play soccer although I am not that good at it. In the winter, I like to go skiing and snowboarding.
Matt - I am thirteen years old and attend seventh grade at the University of Toronto Schools. I enjoy a wide variety of sports, including, but not limited to, baseball, basketball and football. I enjoy reading, both fiction and non-fiction, with a special interest in history. In my schools for the past two years I have played a role in the school drama production and this is an ongoing interest of mine. One notable experience I have had was living for one year with my family in the south of France. I went to school there and had many opportunities to travel all around Europe. My favourite trips were to Italy and Greece. My father grew up in Winnipeg and attended the University of Manitoba, so the chance to be here for the Canada Wide Science Fair is especially exciting for me.

Abstract:"Aquarium Filtering" compares cut-out filters to custom made filters in performance-to-cost ratio. Cut-out filters are cheaper, but you cut them out yourself. Custom made filters are made to fit a specific filter, but are more expensive. If the two filters work equally well, but cut-out filters are less expensive, then pet owners may have been wasting money buying custom made filters.
