I am a Grade 9 student at Winston Knoll Collegiate in Regina, Saskatchewan. I have a variety of extra curricular interests including band, choir, the annual musical and I enjoy many sports. I am also a member of the Student Representative Council. Outside of school, I continue to be involved in “Do It With Class Young Peoples Theatre”, several types of dance lessons as well as voice and piano. I am an avid reader and especially enjoy historical fact and fiction, science fiction, and scientific text. At my Grade 8 graduation, I received the Budd MacNeill Award for leadership in the school and community. Since my interests are in the subjects of science and math, my future focus will likely be these areas. |
| Benjamin Korol Genomic DNA Quantities
Division: | Biotechnology / None | Category: | Intermediate | Region: | Regina | City: | Regina, SK | School: | Winston Knoll Collegiate | Abstract: | DNA was extracted from bananas, kiwis, and tomatoes at the under ripe, ripe, and over ripe stages to observe which had the most extractable DNA. The quantities were measured and compared physically. The results showed that the under ripe fruits supplied more extractable DNA. The main reason of this outcome is the degradation of the DNA within the cell. |
