| I am a Grade eight student from north-eastern Ontario. I am the president of my school's student council, a founding member of our Green Team (promoting a greener Earth), and have acted as master of ceremonies for numerous school events. I also like to get involved with my community, and have been a historical re-enactor for my town's Voyageur Days. I enjoy sports, like running, basketball, track and field, snowboarding, and curling. My curling team has won gold and bronze in previous years. I am an outdoor enthusiast, and camp and canoe every summer. Since my dad is a biologist, I'm out in the field with him often, and every year I volunteer with the Ministry of Natural Resources for things like owl and turtle surveys. This year, I participated in an elk survey by helicopter. I play the tin whistle, paint and draw, and have had one of my poems published. When I was in Grade 4, I was interviewed as a citizen scientist by an Ontario Science Centre scientist for a feature on TVOntario Kids. After high school, I plan to go to university to be a biologist, or maybe a historian or author. |

Wind Energy - Can it be Greener?

But turbines are not without their problems: every year thousands of bats are killed at wind farms. Tiger moths are able to deter feeding bats by producing clicks. The potential use of a frequency generator to mimic these clicks as a method of deterring bats from wind farms is examined. |
