Saijal - My name is Saijal Suri, I am 13 years of age and am currently in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program in Grade 8 at William G. Davis Snr. P.S. in the region of Peel. I was born on June 3rd, 1994 in India, however we soon after moved to Dubai, U.A.E., where we lived for 7 years, after which we moved to Canada. Along with having a strong academic background at school, I’m also involved in a variety of groups such as Extinguish, an anti-tobacco organization, Senior Band, as I play the flute, and the Athletic Council, among others. Also, my strong leadership and communication skills allow me to be involved in many activities around the community such as swimming, for which I have completed all swimmer levels, Bronze Medallion and Basic First Aid; Meanwhile, I continue to volunteer around the pool at my local YMCA, helping swimming instructors teach younger children and giving back to the YMCA community what it gave to me! Along with swimming, I enjoy dancing, biking, art and reading. I’ve always had an interest in science and am thrilled to have this opportunity to make a contribution to this celebration of science! | Hyui In - My name is Hane Jun and I am 14 years old. I was brought into this world on March 30th, 1994 in Seoul, South Korea. My life, so far has been pretty hectic, because I've been named "gifted" ever since Grade 5, leading a challenging life from a very young age. Currently, I am in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program [IBMYP] and this has opened many new doors for me. At school, I like to be involved in many things, like band, for example. And even outside of school, I am very involved in the community, like Piano, babysitting and even tutoring some of my friends in Math. Some careers I would like to pursue later on in my lifetime would hopefully relate to the Arts or Math, since truthfully, I excel in both subjects. For e.g, I actually have gotten medals for Math competitions previously and had a chance to work at the Living Arts centre. Finally, some of my favourite hobbies are listening to music, playing with my friends and even turning up the music and dance. |
| Saijal Suri, Hyui In Jun Germy Hosts
Division: | Physical & Mathematical Sciences / None | Category: | Junior | Region: | Peel | City: | Brampton, ON | School: | William G. Davis Senior P.S. | Abstract: | The experiment, Germy Hosts, involved collecting and growing bacteria samples, using cotton swabs and agar plates, from washrooms in various public locations. Discovering shocking results like the presence of many pathogenic bacteria, such as E.coli, Salmonella and Streptococcus, and the conclusion that malls are safer than schools, this project also suggests proper washroom-cleaning habits and a cost estimate for replacing inefficient bathroom fixtures. |
