| David is an eighth grade student at Kwantlen Park Secondary in Surrey, B.C. He plays the clarinet in the school’s Concert Band, had a part in the school play and studies piano. He enjoys fencing foil competitively and placed 5th in the 2008 B.C. Youth Provincial Championships. His interests include video games, strategy games and reading. His career plans could involve video game programming, working in the Mars Rover program at NASA, or stand-up comedy. |

Lead in Lettuce

I thought organic lettuce would have less lead than non-organic. I froze and crushed my lettuce samples, placed them in vials, added acid and spun them. I extracted the supernatant, used a reagent and tested the fluid spectrophotometrically. Lead was present in most samples at low levels, but the levels of organic and non-organic lettuce were practically the same. |
