| Stephanie - My name is Stephanie and I am daughter to Mike and Suzanne Plourde and sister to Simon who is studying Civil Engineering at Carleton University. I was born and raised in Smiths Falls, Ontario and am18 years old. I am fluently bilingual in French and English and attending Smiths Falls District Collegiate Institute in grade 12. Next year I will be returning to do an extra year of high school, to help me make a more informed decision of which career path to pursue. I enjoy math and sciences, particularly physics and algebra and am considering engineering for my university education. My academic average is currently 91%. Hockey is one of my deepest passions and I have been playing for 13 years. In the 2007/2008 season, I was assistant captain on the NCCP Midget AA girl’s team in Ottawa. Also, I enjoy playing basketball and soccer. One of my proudest moments was, after months of training and hard work, completing the Ottawa ING 21km half marathon in May 2007. I am looking forward to the Canada Wide Science Fair experience. | | Lauren - I am currently in my final year of high school at Smiths Falls DCI. Throughout my years there and many previous I have been involved in dance. I dance many different styles and I also teach dance. By being involved in dance I was able to take part in many community events throughout the years. Dance has been a huge part of my life but another huge part has been school. I have always obtained top marks in my classes and in both grade nine and ten I was the top academic student. A major accomplishment of mine was completing a 21km half-marathon last May. It was a lot of work, hours and commitment but after completing it, it made me realize that anything is possible if you just work for it. I am planning on continuing on my journey of education and make my way to university in the fall of 2008. My plans are to major in biology at Dalhousie University and hopefully from there enter medical school and become a doctor. For the time being I plan on concentrating on my final months of high school, work, and just live life to the fullest. |

Physics Of A Slapshot

A device was created to be placed on a hockey stick to increase the speed of a slap shot. Using a variety of levelled players, slap shots were taken with and without the device. These tests showed that when players used the device, the speed of their shot increased. |
