| My name is Dawson Ethier. I am a 12 year old grade 7 student at Calvin Park - Challenge Program in Kingston Ontario. I love math, soccer, golf and building things. I have recently won medals in both mathematic the Fibonnacci and Pythagorous contents. I have played AAA hockey and regional soccer, with soccer being my favourite sport. At our regional science fair I won the gold medal for my project and best of fair (bronze). I was also awarded the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Award for the best display of practical engineering. When I go to University it will either be for medicine or Engineering. My project was inspired from seeing old tires lying by streams and ditches and knowing that it was harming our environment. I had to think of a way to use these tires in a way that would make everyday living better. After I came up with the concept I sought guidance from a local structural engineering firm who helped me work through my ideas. They like my idea and thought it could be refined further and used in the real world. |

There are millions of miles of sidewalks in Canada and the US. Simillarily there are hundreds of millions of tires being dumped in landfills causing significant environmental issues. This project accomplishes two main goals, reduce the number of used tires in our landfills and improve the safety and design of traditional sidewalks |
