I like to think of my self as a fun, kind, and friendly person. My name is Erin McCarthy, and I am a grade 8 student at North Queens School. I moved to West Caledonia from Newfoundland at the age of 7. It has always been a great school, although it was tough when it burned down in 2006. My favorite subject in school has always been English because I love writing. No matter if it is poems, stories, or anything else. I am involved with Student council, Dance Comity, Prom Comity, Fall, and Winter Carnival Comity, and more. I am also an active member of the local 4-H club. I was president for the last two years, and am now secretary. I enjoy playing my guitar, bongos, and piano. Sports are also a big part of my life. I take part in cross country, track and field, and volleyball through school. I am green belt in Arnis De Mano Martial Arts (Karate). I also love to travel, at the age of 5, I spent 9 months in England. This was an amazing experience. I try to be the best that I can, and I will always be me. |

Division: | Engineering & Computing Sciences / Environmental Innovation | Category: | Junior | Region: | South Shore | City: | Caledonia, NS | School: | North Queens Rural High School | Abstract: | During the reconstruction of North Queens School, there was an oil spill, which caused many problems. This was due the soil under the spill letting so much oil pass through and absorbing little. This gave me my topic. What soil absorbs oil the best? This was the question investigated by this project. It tests how 4 different oils are absorbed by 5 different oils. |
