Biography
Kelsey Kynoch is a grade 8 student who is on both the Principals List and Diligence List at Coquihalla Middle School in Merritt, British Columbia. She enjoys rural life with her family and friends and has been a member of the Nicola Valley 4-H Beef Club and High School Rodeo Club for the past 7 years. She loves reading and working with animals. Her science accomplishments include the Top Junior Science Project, Best Environmental Project, BC Science Teachers award and the BC Agriculture in the Classroom award at the 2010 Cariboo-Mainline Regional Science Fair. Kelsey plans to pursue a science degree after secondary school. She is honored and excited to be attending the Canada Wide Science Fair in Peterborough, ON.

A Bug's Life: From Bad Oil to Good Soil

Abstract:This project tested the effectiveness of microbes with bagasse on petroleum oil spills in soil. Climate methods included seasonal outside and controlled inside temperatures. New and used motor oils were used. After 40 days soil samples were lab tested. Results conclude that new and used petroleum oil in both warm and cold temperatures were greatly reduced with the application of microbes and bagasse.
