Biography
I am honoured to be participating in my third CWSF. I was inspired to do this project because over the past few years I have been learning about the pond snail and its important role in the research world. This snail is even helping scientists learn more about Alzheimers. This year's project was well received at Regionals earning a gold medal, Best in Show and other awards. As a Gr.10 student, doing well in my studies and being involved at school is important to me. I belong to Student Leadership and Student-Voice (which connects students from different schools with the school board) to help make our school experience the best it can be. I am currently in Gr. 8 RCM (piano) and am happy to be teaching three students. Other activities I enjoy include Youth Group and recreational activities like curling each winter. This year I was thrilled that my curling team competed at Provincials. In the summer, I enjoy water sports especially kayaking. My advice for students considering a science fair project is to take advantage of this great opportunity, give yourself lots of time, research and talk to people. I plan to pursue a career in science.

Investigating Correlations and Variations of Lymnae stagnalis
Challenge:Environment
Category:Intermediate
Region:Central Interior British Columbia
City:Fraser Lake, BC
School:Fraser Lake Elem-Secondary
Abstract:Lymnae stagnalis (pond snail) is widely used in neurological and behavioural studies. For experiments, snails are mostly chosen by length (the main determinant of age). This project investigated how much variation there was in the mass of snails and could physical traits of length and mass be correlated to respiration, mobility and feeding? The findings of this project are significant to the research world.
