Biography
My name is Maria Alex and I am 13 years old. I am a grade 8 student attending Eskasoni Elementary and Middle School. I am a First Nation person, my culture is Mi'kmaw. I enjoy learning about my culture and spending time with my love ones. My career plan is to be a biologist, and get my degree in law. I would like to continue in science and study environmental issues. My proudest awards is placing first in the past 5 years in our Regional Science Fairs. I am very honoured to attend the Canada Wide Science Fair for my second time. I got the inspiration for this project because of all the stress and anxiety that is increasing in my First Nation communities and hoping to find innovated ways to support my First Nation communities. My plans to do further investigation would be to collect data about gender preferences. The advice i would give to other student is to collect as much data to support your project overall and to be confident.

Abstract:Historically the Mi'kmaw have used their language and methods of meditation practices for spiritualgrowth and stress reduction. As language and culture have been impacted by colonialism andresidential schools the Mi'kmaw have lost this practice.
