Robert - As new drivers, both my partner Logan and I have noticed the dangers of distracted driving. We witnessed, first hand, how significant a hazard a distracted driver can be to not only other drivers but to other pedestrians too. So, we decided to create a science fair project to test how distractions affect your ability to concentrate on a task. Distraction Factor was created from our curiosity into what was affecting these individuals from paying attention to the highly important task of operating a vehicle. I am 17 years old and a member of the local Student Council at the high school and have helped with social causes such as the Belarus Yearbook, where students helped create a yearbook for Belarus orphans. Over my high school career I have achieved over 90% each year and have attended different events such as the Ontario Youth Parliament. I also ran a successful rickshaw Summer Company in the summer of 2010 and 2011. The business was named one of the four most successful Summer Companies in 2012 by the Province of Ontario. We encourage all students to participate in a science fair and learn more about the world around them. | Logan - As young drivers, my partner and I witnessed distracted driving on a regular basis. This got us thinking about the different types of distractions present on our roadways, and whether certain distractions had a greater impact on a person's ability to concentrate. This train of thought would eventually lead to the creation of our project, Distraction Factor. During high school I have maintained above a ninety percent average quite consistently, while participating in school activities such as the Track and Field team and the Belarus yearbook club. I would definitely recommend participating in science fair to anyone who might be unsure about entering. It requires a lot of hard work but it really is a very rewarding experience. |
