Biographies
Sandro - My name is Sandro Young, and I am in grade nine at Lisgar Collegiate Institute. I am interested in math, science, electronics, and computing. At the Ottawa Regional Science Fair last year, I was awarded first prize in my category, and won numerous special awards. I recently participated in the Pascal math contest, and came second in my school. I experiment with electronics and write computer programs in my free time. I enjoy music, and I play alto saxophone for our school's Junior Concert Band. Our band recently participated in the Kiwanis Festival, where we were awarded first prize in our category. I am studying piano at the Grade 8 level. In the summer, I race canoe and kayak at the Rideau Canoe Club, and was a silver medalist at the 2008 Ontario Summer Games. Other sports I enjoy include skiing (both cross country and downhill), swimming, and cycling. Last year, I was honoured as valedictorian of the Turnbull 2008 graduating class, and achieved the highest overall average, as well as the highest mark in English, Science, and Math. Finally, I am an avid reader, and enjoy travel.
Justin - I am a 9th grade student at Sir Robert Borden HS. I am interested in computer and engineering related technologies, and have participated in the Ottawa Regional Science Fair for the past 3 years. I am also interested in music, and play a few instruments.

Wireless Power II: Characterizing Magnetically Coupled Fields
Division:Health Sciences / None
Category:Intermediate
Region:Ottawa
City:Ottawa, ON
School:Lisgar C.I., Sir Robert Borden H.S.
Abstract:For our project, we built a device to wirelessly transmit power through a phenomenon known as magnetically coupled resonance. We then measured and modeled the magnetic field produced by this transmitter, and monitored how it was changed when a resonant receiver was introduced.
