Jaclyn - My name is Jaclyn Law in Grade 9, attending Francis Libermann Catholic High School. I play the alto saxophone for my school’s senior and intermediate concert bands and for junior stage band, and the clarinet last year. I am also part of the leadership group, We Are. I am identified as gifted and am enrolled in an enriched program. I enjoy an active lifestyle, playing on our badminton team. I volunteer at school functions, and at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto. In the past, I won numerous ribbons and crests for sporting events, a bronze medal in the previous year’s Toronto-wide Sci-Tech Fair, certificates of distinction in various Waterloo math contests, a bronze medal for a speech contest and second place at a Japanese speech contest. I represented my school at a debate, and was an Honour Roll student for 3 years consecutively. My hobbies include playing the violin and saxophone, studying Japanese, and collecting unusually shaped erasers. In addition, I take pleasure in studying different languages and reading novels. I love to try new things as long as it does not harm me. After graduation, I plan on pursuing a career in the field of medical sciences.
Evelyn - My name is Evelyn Lam and I am a Grade 9 student at Francis Libermann Catholic High School. There, I am part of the school choir and play flute in the Intermediate Stage and Senior Concert Bands. I am also involved in “We Are…”, a leadership group working with Free the Children to better the situations of children around the world. Another leadership opportunity was joining Scouts Canada, of which I have been a member for five years. I have been a Cub for two and a Scout for three years, two of which I have been a Patrol Leader. Last June, I achieved the Chief Scout’s Award, the highest Scout level accomplishment in Scouts Canada, through which I developed citizenship, leadership, personal development and outdoor skills. I recently joined the Venturers section and am working towards the Queen’s Venturer Award. I have participated in the Chinese Martyrs Catholic Children’s Choir for five years, performing at various locations and events. Last summer, I volunteered at a daycare centre and as a leader at my church’s Youth Summer Camp. I do not yet know which career path I will choose, but no matter what it is, I will strive for success.
