| My name is Olivia Newport and I really enjoy school and learning. I am a very energetic member of our student council. As our school's "Spirit Rep" it is my mission to try to get every student enthusiastically involved with our special spirit days. I am the youngest member of the Glanbrook Heritage Society and I have been an active member since I was 11 years old. My goal is to preserve and promote our local history. I also volunteer at our local historical sites. I have won the Provincial and National awards for Historica Canadian Heritage Fairs. This year I was honoured by receiving the Ontario Heritage Trust Young Leaders Award. Recently I won a bronze medal for public speaking in our city finals. Currently, I am teaching myself how to play the cello. I would love to become a doctor one day. My interests are in the Psychiatric field. In my life I would like to dedicate effort to ensure that people suffering with mental health issues and disabilities, get to live a safe and meaningful life. My two older siblings live with disabilities, so this is very important to me. |

The Amazing Lodestone

The Lodestone is historically significant, as it was the first magnetic compass. The Lodestone compass guided history's most important explorers to new lands. I tested the Lodestone for magnetism and made simple magnetic compasses to investigate if they would point me in the north direction. The Lodestone proved to be a simple directional tool. |
