Kelcie - My name is Kelcie Miller Anderson, and I live in Calgary Alberta. I am 14 years old and currently in grade 9 at the Calgary Science School. I’ve been taking gymnastics for 5 years now and compete at a provincial level. I also enjoy many other sports such as dance, volleyball, snowboarding, skiing, and horse back riding. This is my fifth year participating in the Calgary Youth Science fair, and my first year attending the Canada Wide Science Fair. At the Calgary science fair my project received a gold medal, the Alberta society of gastroenterology award, and a travel scholarship from the Alberta Science Fair Foundation to attend the Canada wide fair. In the future I plan on attending Central Memorial high school, enrolling in the performing and visual arts program for my dance. After high school I wish to go into microbiology and zoology.
Maria - My name is Maria Shtil, and I am currently in Grade 9 at the Calgary Science School, Alberta. I was born in Ukraine and moved to Calgary when I was 2 years old. I have been interested in academics all my life and next year I will be attending Western Canada High School for the full IB program. I have been in science fair for 3 years, my first year winning a gold at the CWSF and my second year involved winning a gold at the CWSF as well as the Primary Health Network Award. My project ‘The Sweeter the Cleaner’ won gold at the CWSF and won the Alberta Society of Gastroenterology Award. I have been on the debate team for 3 years and went to the provincials for debate last year. Outside of school, I ballroom dance. I am hoping to compete in ballroom dance in the near future. I help to volunteer at the Mustard Seed Christmas Toy Drive during Christmas time. I am planning to take sciences at the University of Calgary and hopefully go to the University of Toronto or Western Ontario for medical school to become a specialty doctor, hopefully in dentistry or dermatology.
